Perfect Pet Insurance Review: Cheap Lifetime Cover, but Read the Caps First
Our Perfect Pet review: lifetime cover with a separate limit for every condition, insurance from 4 weeks old with no upper age limit, and the caps, 90-day claim deadline and exclusions we found in the full policy document.
Published 6 October 2026

Perfect Pet is a UK specialist that insures dogs and cats, and it does lifetime cover differently from most of the market. It ranks seventh in our guide to the best pet insurance providers in the UK. We read its full policy document as well as the summary, and the small print changes the picture. Here is how its model works, and who it still suits.
Our verdict
Perfect Pet is one of the cheapest ways into lifetime cover, and it is unusually flexible on age: it covers puppies from 4 weeks and has no upper age limit for new policies. Its lifetime plans give each condition its own limit of up to £5,000, reset every year, rather than one pot shared by everything.
The catch is in the policy document. It sets low fixed limits on everyday vet costs: £250 for an anaesthetic, £100 for a hospital stay, £200 for a referral and £50 for out-of-hours fees. It also gives you just 90 days to claim, and it does not pay vet fees if your dog is hurt while a dog walker, sitter or groomer is looking after them. For a low premium those trade-offs may be fine, but they are bigger than the headline £5,000 limit suggests.
What you get
- Lifetime cover with per-condition limits from £1,000 up to £5,000, reinstated every year you renew, with no limit on how many conditions you can claim for
- A fixed £90 excess per condition, per policy year
- Cover from 4 weeks old and no upper age limit for new policies
- Free 24/7 vet advice by phone and video through its Vet Assist service
- Direct payment to your vet
- 15% off when you insure more than one pet directly at the same time
Perfect Pet also sells time-limited and maximum benefit policies if you want something cheaper than lifetime cover. It says it settles 97% of claims within five working days, and it has a 4.6 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot from more than 17,000 reviews.
What it costs
Perfect Pet sits at the value end of the lifetime market, and the per-condition structure is the reason. An insurer that caps each condition at £5,000, and caps everyday costs within that, can charge less than one that promises £15,000 or £20,000 a year. Add the 15% multi-pet discount and it is one of the cheaper routes to lifetime cover, particularly for small dogs.
The catches
- £5,000 per condition is the ceiling. Cruciate surgery, spinal surgery or cancer treatment can cost more than that in a year. If your breed is prone to expensive conditions, weigh this carefully against an insurer with a larger annual limit.
- Everyday costs are capped too. An operation's anaesthetic, a few nights in a vet hospital and an out-of-hours visit can each cost more than Perfect Pet pays for them.
- The co-payment starts at 8. From age 8, dogs pay 15% of each claim on top of the £90 excess.
- Dental cover is for accidents only. Gum disease, decay and extractions for decay are not covered.
The small print, in short
We read Perfect Pet's full lifetime policy document (version 1.1, July 2026). These are the points most owners will never see in the summary.
- Fixed caps on everyday costs: £250 per general anaesthetic, £100 for hospitalisation, £200 for a referral consultation, £50 for out-of-hours fees (£150 if the treatment is life-saving), £100 per 24 hours of fluid therapy, £35 per bandage, and £15 each for injections and blood samples.
- A 90-day claim deadline. Any invoice over 90 days old will not be paid.
- No cover while your dog is in someone else's care. Vet fees are excluded if your dog is being looked after by a pet sitter, dog walker, kennel or groomer, or by anyone outside your immediate family.
- A price check on your vet's bill. Perfect Pet can limit what it pays to a 100% mark-up on medication, compared with online pharmacy prices.
- A long list of excluded breeds, including Akitas, Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Chow Chows, Shar Peis, Great Danes, Cane Corsos and working sheepdogs, plus dogs used for showing, breeding or gundog work, and any dog living at premises that sell alcohol.
- Food, behaviour and end-of-life costs are excluded, including prescribed diets, behavioural problems, euthanasia and cremation. So is any claim where being overweight or underweight contributed to the condition.
- Missed payments are costly. If a premium is not collected within 14 days, the policy is cancelled and outstanding claims will not be paid.
- Waiting periods: 5 days for accidents and 14 days for illness, longer than most insurers for accidents.
Should you buy it?
If you want lifetime cover at the lowest price, have a very young puppy or an older dog, and you will not use a dog walker or groomer, Perfect Pet is worth a quote. Read the caps on everyday costs before you buy, and set yourself a reminder to claim within 90 days. If you own a large or high-risk breed, use a dog walker, or want the security of a big annual pot, compare it with the higher-limit insurers in our full UK pet insurance guide.

Common questions
How does Perfect Pet's lifetime cover work?
Instead of one annual limit shared across everything, Perfect Pet gives each condition its own limit, up to £5,000 on the top level, which resets every year you renew. A dog with arthritis and a skin allergy in the same year gets a separate limit for each. Related conditions, and conditions affecting both sides of the body, count as one.
Does Perfect Pet insure older dogs?
Yes. There is no upper age limit for new policies, and puppies can be covered from just 4 weeks old. A 15% co-payment applies to claims for dogs from age 8.
What is Perfect Pet's excess?
A fixed £90 per condition, per policy year, and it counts towards the condition's limit. From age 8, dogs also pay a 15% co-payment on each claim.
How long do I have to claim with Perfect Pet?
90 days from the treatment. That is the shortest claim deadline of any insurer in our guide, so send your vet's invoice in straight away.
Does Perfect Pet cover dental treatment?
Only after an accident, such as a tooth broken in a fall. Dental illness, including gum disease and decay, is not covered.
Who underwrites Perfect Pet?
Perfect Pet is part of the Tedaisy group. Its current lifetime policy document, from July 2026, names Antares Insurance Company as the insurer, with claims handled by Tedaisy Claims. Your policy schedule will confirm the insurer behind your cover.
