Floofers started in 2023 because I kept running into the same problem every dog owner knows: for every genuinely useful piece of advice online, there are ten pages of outdated alpha-dog nonsense, thinly disguised adverts, and guides written by people who've clearly never held a lead. I wanted one place with practical, evidence-based information for UK dog owners - so I built it.

I’m Rob, and this is Floofers. I’ve owned and trained dogs for the better part of a decade, I’ve lived and looked after almost every dog breed from Cockapoos to Dobermanns. I’ve been lucky enough to have trained dogs as a hobby and worked out what makes them tick through rigorous hours of trial and error. I’m not a vet, but I’m an obsessive dog owner who reads the research so you don’t need to.

This is Leia. A fair amount of what I have learned the hard way, I learned from her.

What Floofers stands for

Every article on the site is written from the same starting point: positive reinforcement, evidence over tradition, and respect for the dog. That means:

• No alpha theory. Dominance-based training has been debunked for decades, and we've written about exactly why. You won't find "pack leader" advice here.
• No fear-based methods. Nothing on this site will ever tell you to frighten, hurt, or intimidate your dog. Full stop.
• Dog consent matters. We believe in reading your dog's signals and respecting their boundaries - it's the foundation of a trusting relationship.

How I research and write these articles

Everything published on Floofers is researched against reputable sources - veterinary bodies, published studies, UK government guidance, and organisations like the RSPCA, Blue Cross, and Dogs Trust - and I update articles when the facts change (rules, prices, and policies move fast in the dog world). Where I've done original digging, like contacting Sussex Police about XL Bully registration, I say so.

‍I'm not a vet, and nothing here is a substitute for professional veterinary advice. If you're ever worried about your dog's health or behaviour, your vet or a qualified behaviourist should always be your first call. What I can promise is honest, carefully researched information to help you ask the right questions and make good decisions.

‍How Floofers makes money

Right now, it doesn't. There are no affiliate links anywhere on Floofers, and the insurance providers compared here have never paid to be listed or to be ranked where they are.

There is a shop on the way, selling walking kit directly. When it opens, that is how the site will pay for itself, and it will be obvious what is for sale and who is selling it. If affiliate links ever come back, this page will say so before they appear.

Occasionally, we're paid or receive something of value for including a company in an article - where that's the case, we say so on the page. Commissions and partnerships never change what we recommend or how we rank anything: if a product or provider isn't good enough for our own dogs, it doesn't go on the site.
